Clutter is the bane of most modern households. We accumulate so much stuff over the course of a lifetime its no wonder our houses are filled to the brim with things we do and don’t need. In most cases we’re ok at hiding or storing our less used possessions. Spare rooms, cupboards, beneath beds and bedside tables are perfect for keeping the things we’re too scared to throw away, but unfortunately over time this can lead to a cluttered room.
If you’ve ever wondered why your coffee table looks like a desk, or why your consoles are stuffed to the brim the answer is simple, we have too much stuff. Here at Your Home Designed, we’re not advocating throwing away half of your possessions, but we are trying to promote smarter storage. Starting with our living rooms here are some of our best storage pieces.
Open Storage Displays
A great way to store and display some of the nicer pieces in your living room is to use an open display unit. These are great for displaying beautiful pieces, and they also take up less space and add to the decorative nature of the room.
A really common piece of furniture during the 70′s and the early 80′s is the side board. Great as a storage cabinet for glass wear and china, its making some what of a combat in recent months. Now instead of the old kitchenware they’re used as storage for some of the living room’s more used pieces like children’s toys, audio equipment and unused cables.
One great way to keep your living room tidy is to create inbuilt storage units where possible. Building a a cabinet into a non-structural wall is a great way to save space, and make your room look stylish and contemporary.
Living room storage doesn’t have to be expensive or require a great deal of work, with a few creative ideas and a bit of patience you can create a living room which is not only tidy but well put together too.
