I hate wallpaper…
I hate absolutely everything about it, I hate hanging it, I hate taking it off the walls and I hate the way it looks.
Did I mention that I hate wallpaper, because I really really do!
But I do understand not wanting to look at blank walls all the time, so ditch the wallpaper and decorate with decals instead. It is like a stunning piece of art on the walls and if you can’t afford art it’s a handy way to get some on the cheap. There are some pretty big distinctions between putting up some decals or trying your hand at hanging wallpaper.
Here are some differences to keep in mind.
This sounds pretty obvious but wall paper covers the entire wall, whereas a decal will only cover a very select area and the rest is just your painted wall. Decals are very thing vinyl that looks a lot like an artist used your wall as a canvas, well until someone touches it or looks a little closer. If you want to highlight an accent wall rather than cover it completely then decals are what you want.
You can get wall decals in almost any size so you can use them as a feature anywhere, you can put small decals on the wall to suit a child’s room or you can create a feature wall in your living room with a large decal. Wallpaper covers an entire wall and it doesn’t give you much in the way of flexibility, the only thing you really get to choose is what walls you cover.
You can get some pretty cool premade wall decals that will work really well, you can also get some custom designs done if you have something special in mind. Most wall decals can be had for less than $100. Wallpaper can run the gamut on costs too depending on the quality, but the costs are comparable the differences is whether or not you get a pro in to hang the wallpaper. If you have never hung wallpaper before I recommend getting a pro, or be prepared to waste a healthy bit of paper along with a fair bit of your time.
Decals are incredibly simple to hang up…wallpaper, not so much. Hanging wallpaper makes an ungodly mess and you will need some tools to do it right, decals are done in minutes.
Decals give you a lot of room to play around, (pardon the pun) you can combine them with other wall art to create an overall theme. Wallpaper is nowhere near as flexible.
I love decals, there is so much you can do with them that wallpaper doesn’t allow. They are easy to put on or take down, and for $50 and 5 minutes you can totally change the look of your room.
